The Quack

The Quack, central Kentucky’s premier party band, has been entertaining audiences with its own powerful brand of good-time music for over 25 years.

The 11-piece group plays a broad selection of hits from four decades, ranging from classic Motown and Memphis-style dance hits to current rock with a few surprises thrown in. The band’s versatile instrumentation and variety of singers, combined with the diverse musical tastes of the members, has produced a repertoire of tunes that includes something to please almost everyone.

The Quack was originally formed by one of the band’s current members and a few of his classmates for the annual talent show at the University of Kentucky College of Law. The next year, The Quack, with a slightly different lineup, reappeared just in time for the talent show. The band then went “dormant” for several years, until it reunited on a whim to play a party in 1986.  The band members enjoyed the reunion so much that they began to actively seek gigs and soon became regulars at area country clubs and bars.

Throughout the 1990s, The Quack played larger and larger clubs, conferences, hotels, charity events, and other venues as it developed a reputation for playing fun rock’n’roll with a lot of enthusiasm. The band’s territory steadily expanded to include the Lexington, Louisville, Ashland, Indianapolis, and the Cincinnati areas. Regardless of its other engagements, the band likes to return to Richmond every summer to play for the college crowds here.

On New Year’s Eve 1998, The Quack entertained University of Kentucky fans in Tampa, Florida, on the night before the Wildcats’ appearance in the Outback Bowl. In 2001 & 2002, the band was the headliner for the City of Richmond’s Fourth of July fireworks celebration at Lake Reba, where they played for over 10,000 people.

The current edition of The Quack includes four members who have been playing together for more than 15 years, including one of the charter members of the band.
